The Moderation Effect of Social Support on the Relationship Between Depression and Self-neglect of the Elderly Who are Living Alone under the Care Service System

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine how depression of living-alone elderly with care service affects self-neglect, based on ¡®Convoy Theory¡¯(Kahn and Antonucci, 1980), and the moderation effect of social support between depression and self-neglect. The survey was targeted to Korean elderly whose age is over 65, live alone with care service in Seoul; 196 cases were used for data analysis. In data analyzing process, SPSS 21.0 program was used for, and the results are following. First, the higher depression that elderly living-alone have, the higher self-neglect was estimated, and social support played a moderator role in the relationship, especially emotional support. Based on these results, we could find out the circumstance of living-alone elderly¡¯s self-neglect in Korea, and also suggest social work intervention to prevent a self-neglect.
